Age Well Recreation’s Chair Yoga for Seniors program incorporates ancient yoga techniques in a modern and safe format specifically designed for older adults.

The word meditation stems from meditatum, a Latin term that means ‘to ponder’ and has been practiced for thousands of years. In more modern times, meditation is commonly used for relaxation and stress reduction.
Considered a type of mind-body complementary medicine, meditation can produce a deep state of relaxation and a tranquil mind. During meditation, you focus your attention and eliminate the stream of jumbled thoughts that may be crowding your mind and causing stress. This process may result in enhanced physical and emotional well-being.

SPRING/SUMMER 2025
Yoga in Art - An art history and interactive drawing experience, is a workshop for Seniors who want to learn about yoga’s fascinating visual history in the arts.
Dancers have been a popular subject for artists across various periods and mediums, with artists like Edgar Degas, Henri Matisse and Keith Haring capturing the grace, movement and emotional essence of dance in their works. Yoga’s elegant flowing poses bring those same dance-like qualities to the artist’s canvas.
In this 75-minute lecture and interactive art class, students express their creativity by sketching their own drawings of yoga poses and hand gestures demonstrated by a live model.
Launched in the fall of 2024, this workshop has taught hundreds of residents in senior housing communities across Long Island, the history of yoga and art of self expression.
FALL/WINTER 2025
The Art of Meditation, A mindfully interactive experience, is a workshop for Seniors who are interested in learning about the benefits of meditation.
The Alzheimer’s Association and many other leading brain health organizations have researched the incredible benefits of meditation for older adults. While it can be intimidating to many who have never practiced, it can actually be quite simple.
The 75-minute lecture and interactive art class focuses on meditation’s fascinating history and teaches students how to begin a meditation practice of their own through simple exercise and easy to understand concepts. We then integrate art with these concepts as a relaxing mindful form of self expression.
Launched in The fall of 2025, this workshop has taught hundreds of residents in senior housing communities across Long Island.

WINTER/SPRING 2026
The Art of Breathing, An energizing and interactive experience, is a workshop for Seniors who are interested in learning about the benefits of breathwork.
During this 75-minute lecture and interactive art class, students will learn about mindful breathing - From its ancient history to the modern-day. They will learn several breathing techniques that have been practiced for millennia and proven by modern day medical science to reduce stress, promote mindfulness and tap into our imagination.
Breathwork has the ability to open up the creative mind. With a relaxed mind and body, students express their creativity by sketching their own drawings of yoga poses demonstrated by a live model. This is truly an art studio experience.
Launching in February 2026 through May 2026 this is an exclusive offering for existing Age Well Recreation clients.

Yoga as long been proven to be a beneficial complement to traditional rehabilitation for adults of all ages who have sustained physical injury. Practicing yoga as part of a physical rehabilitation program can not only help speed up the recovery process but can also help in recovering mentally after an injury.
