The word meditation comes from the Latin term meditatum, meaning “to ponder,” and has been practiced for thousands of years. Today, meditation is widely used to support relaxation, stress reduction, mindfulness, and emotional well-being.
As a mind-body wellness practice, guided meditation encourages a calm, focused state by helping individuals quiet distracting thoughts and become more present in the moment.

Age Well Recreation’s Guided Meditation programs combine ancient and modern techniques in a welcoming, approachable format designed specifically for older adults and senior living communities across Queens and Long Island.
Our sessions help residents relax, reconnect, and develop simple mindfulness practices they can continue beyond the classroom.
Yoga in Art is a unique art history and interactive drawing workshop designed for older adults who want to explore the fascinating connection between yoga, movement, and artistic expression.
Throughout history, artists such as Edgar Degas, Henri Matisse, and Keith Haring captured the grace, movement, and emotional energy of dancers in their work. Yoga’s flowing postures and expressive hand gestures bring those same artistic qualities to life.
In this 75-minute wellness and creativity workshop, residents learn about the visual history of yoga in art while participating in a guided sketching experience featuring yoga poses and hand gestures demonstrated by a live model.
The Art of Meditation is a mindful and interactive workshop designed for older adults interested in learning about the benefits of meditation, mindfulness, and relaxation.
Research from organizations such as the Alzheimer’s Association and other leading brain health organizations has explored the positive impact meditation may have on stress reduction, emotional wellness, focus, and overall quality of life for older adults.
While meditation can feel intimidating to beginners, this workshop introduces the practice in a simple, welcoming, and approachable way.
This 75-minute lecture and interactive art experience explores the history of meditation while teaching residents easy-to-understand mindfulness techniques and practical exercises they can incorporate into everyday life. Participants then blend creativity with mindfulness through guided artistic self-expression in a calm and relaxing environment.
The Art of Breathing is an energizing and interactive wellness workshop designed for older adults interested in learning about the benefits of breathwork, mindfulness, and relaxation.
During this 75-minute lecture and interactive art experience, residents explore the history of mindful breathing — from ancient wellness traditions to modern-day scientific research. Students are introduced to simple breathing techniques that may help reduce stress, improve focus, promote relaxation, and support emotional well-being.
Participants learn approachable breathwork exercises that encourage mindfulness, creativity, and a stronger mind-body connection in a safe and welcoming environment.
With the mind and body relaxed, residents then transition into an artistic self-expression experience by sketching yoga poses demonstrated by a live model — creating a calming and inspiring art studio atmosphere unlike a traditional wellness class.
The Art of Breathing combines breathwork, creativity, mindfulness, and movement into a one-of-a-kind experience.
